Natal Processor Chip Downgrade?

There has been rumors that Microsoft's motion tracking camera "Project Natal" has had one of it's processor chips ditched in order to cut costs. The rumor would back-up previous speculation that Microsoft are aiming for a sub-£50 price mark. Instead it has been said there will be software that uses some of the Xbox 360's processing power and give it to Natal, I'm not quite sure on how that would work. Microsoft has refused to comment on the rumors.

Images: Quick look at Dell's Android powered tablet

This is Dell's new and upcoming tablet contender dubbed "a tablet". The device sports a beautiful 5-inch OLED touch screen. Also it's got a SIM slot along with a nice 5MP camera and what seems to be a built-in stand, which is cool.

Parrot AR.Drone - Quad helicopter controlled with your iPhone

If this does not make you wish that you were flying this right now, what will? This is truly an amazing example of what is possible when you take something as complicated as a small scale helicopter with four blades, and add some simplicity to it by giving the pilot full control, just using his iPhone using WiFi!

The drone has an on-board camera so you can have a 1st person view of where you are going. It is stabilized by a combination of accelerometers, gyros and sonar sensors. It has stabilizing technology that allows it to recognize the look of the surface below it so it can stabilize and return to its same position if its windy or bumped. They also include the source code for their apps.

Video: CES 2010 - Full Microsoft Keynote

This is Microsoft's Keynote address for CES 2010, hosted by Steve Ballmer and Robbie Bach.It was long and it was pretty good! There was a lot of new announcements, some big, some small. Also there were a slew of demos and tons of video clips played, along with lots of demos and big announcements. Just some of the big announcments were Project Natal, Halo Reach, Gameroom, and tons of new devices and media software. Some of it is mind blowing and some of it is "meh" but all in all this is a must watch. Grab some popcorn.

Update: No need for Silverlight any more!

No Courier Tablet Unveiling at Microsoft Keynote - :'( sadface

Steve Ballmer's Keynote 2

After two hours of waiting, and then an additional 20 minutes when the they blew out their power, Microsoft didn't reveal anything worth while at all during their pre-show CES keynote. There were rumors circulating that they would show off a tablet in association with HP, their newest hardware partner, and everyone was thinking it was going to be the "Courier" everyone's been hearing about. I'm afraid there was no such luck.

We did, however, get a tablet made by HP to justify the rumor mentioned earlier. The  "slate", as they wanted to call it - wonder where they got that name from, right? - wasn't fully explained or given much detail; not even an official name. But it did look sleek, and it was in the ball park of what we've imagined these things to look like by now.

Two other slates were highlighted for a few moment; one by Archos, and the other by Pegatron. They all seemed like a portable pc, smaller than a netbook, even e-reader like, but nothing as innovative as the fabled Apple "iSlate" or Microsoft "Courier".

Sorry kiddies, but better luck next time. Although, I did run into Microsoft's own Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb after the show and asked him about his thoughts on no official tablet being unveiled:

"Well... (long pause, and some time to think)... we have a lot of hardware products. Let's leave it at that. I'm more focused on the Xbox."

-Major Nelson, Director of Programming for Xbox Live

Interesting choice of words. But alas there's nothing to show for it at the moment. Microsoft is keeping mum on its crown jewel for now, and so the ball rolls calmly into Apple's hands with no immediate competition coming their way. Get your plane tickets now to Cupertine, Ca for January 27th.

New Xbox Live Features announced - CES 2010 Microsoft Keynote

Tonight Robbie Bach, president of entertainment and devices at Microsoft, announced some pretty neat stuff available, and to become available on the Xbox 360 and Xbox live, namely Halo Reach. This spring, Microsoft and Bungie are going to release the new multiplayer beta for Halo Reach to the public. Also they are going to add "an ever growing repertuar of non-gaming experiences" which sounds exciting. Also there is now Zune video on Xbox live so you can watch full 1080p, 5.1 Surround sound movies and video on Xbox, "with no more waiting around while the movie buffers" -- also you can watch it on your Windows PC, Zune and Windows mobile device. Also, the now have games designed for social gameplay, namely the classics! This spring, they are bringing back dozens of games from the good ol' days, and integrating it with social features, on your PC and Xbox 360. Apparently you can make your own "custom arcade" and invite your friends. Trailer after the break!

This is just a couple of the announcements made by Microsoft at their 2010 CES Keynote and there is more to come from T3ch H3lp.

Nexus One Teardown - they found 802.11n WiFi and FM transmitter

You already know everything about the Nexus One, but what about what you need to know? Those crafty guys over at iFixit have torn the Nexus to bits. The weird part is they found 802.11n WiFi and an FM transmitter. The reason why no-one knew about the WiFi is because Google does list 802.11n on the specs page although HTC does not WTF! Also the bit that houses the WiFi chip is also capable of transmitting and receiving FM signals and is labeled "Broadcom BCM4329EKUBG". Links after the break!
