Google says Desktops will be Irrelevant in 3 years

European Director of Google's online sales, John Herlihy, was speaking at the Digital Landscapes conference at UCD.  He made a point that Google is mostly oriented towards mobile devices, claiming they all become more important than desktop PCs.

He went on to say “In three years time, desktops will be irrelevant. In Japan, most research is done today on smart phones, not PCs,” and that makes sense.

Google isn't interested in how we make our videos, they just want to serve them, and add them to their search.

As we start to see the increase in mobile technology development like the iPad and Nexus One, we will start to see better reception from the public, thus re-enforcing the fact that people will start thinking "why do I need a PC? This thing is the size of a magazine and it can do everything I need..."

On the other hand, not many people are willing, just yet, to give up their PC. I know I am one of them, but it is really interesting to realize where all this will finally end up. The cloud.

Android 2.1 for the Droid, oh yes it's real this time.

When Motorola announced that the Droid would be receiving Android 2.1 via their Facebook page, bloggers and consumers alike were overcome with joy. However, as the week progressed it became apparent that the company had no intention of actually releasing the update within the specified timeframe. If you’re still holding out for Android 2.1 on your Droid, we’ve got good word that an official test build is running ramped in the wild. As of this moment it appears that Android 2.1 for the Droid will feature multi-touch in both the default browser as well as the revamped, re-stylised gallery application. You’ll also notice that the news and weather widgets have made the cut, however, the newer “application drawer” as featured on the Nexus One isn’t included in this build. Hopefully Motorola will be able to release this update soon, but more importantly, release it without any further setbacks.

BlackBerry QWERTY Slider steps back into the limelight

Remember yesterday when we revealed what was quite possibly a QWERTY Blackberry Slider? As of today several more photos were released, and this time they are in-focus. At the present time rumours are flying around the Internet left, right and center.  BlackBerry Leaks still stands by their theory, claiming that this may be the Storm 3, however, Kevin over at CrackBerry believes that this will be part of the Bold line. He’s also heard that this device is expected to have a 360x480 surepress display, along with Blackberry OS 6.0. Hopefully the next ensemble of photos will show it powered up, if that’s not too much to ask for?

Skinput - It can turn your body into a touchscreen

Yes, we are one more step closer to becoming robots - but ignoring that fact, this is the most bad-ass thing since this thing that can turn anything into a touchscreen. Anyways, that thing does it through cameras, this thing does it by listening to your skin...
