How to - Vimeo Embed videos working on iPad

Isn’t it frustrating, uploading your video to Vimeo for that fantastic Vimeo player - and then have it not play on the iPad? Well, Vimeo (which seems to be the perfect companion for iPad) recently pushed out their HTML5 compatibility plan to all Vimeo videos, so essentially you can currently watch them on the iPad, but only on Vimeo’s site. But now, you can embed them on your own website, thanks to some thoughfullness from the Vimeo forums, and one hell of a creative lady…

Windows 3.11 installed on an Nexus One, we're still asking ourselves why?

Okay, I’m simply going to ask: “Why would you bother installing Windows 3.11 on an Nexus One?” — Clearly this wasn’t a question hacker Eric Tate asked himself before introducing a little bit of nostalgia into his modern 2010 lifestyle. Quite frankly I’m still slightly perplexed, but nevertheless, if you’re also in the mood for you’re mid-life crisis… err, I mean daily dose of old, then he’s created a step-by-step guide for you to do the same. Not ready to imbue your Nexus One with the latest in 1993 operating systems? Then we suggest living vicariously through the video after the break.

How to get your Privacy back on Facebook

Facebook seems to be the horse everyone is beating do death, because of one thing (and one thing only), privacy. It seems that the team has recently become focused on micro-managing our social lives all-together, but not all hope is lost.

Quickertek goes green with its solar panel charging station for the iPad

Looks like today’s shaping up to be one of those “why did you bother days.” Adding fuel to the fire, we’ve gotten wind of Quickertek’s latest product. Basically, it’s nothing more than an oversized grid of solar panels that can be used to charge-up that ever-so magical Apple device. We’re not quite sure as to whether this is actually a magical charging solution, but according to the info on Quickertek’s site, the solar panels produce 10watts of power (the equivalent wattage of Apple’s wall charger). With no actual word on charge time and a price tag of $250 we’d rather find a power point, but it’s nice to know that greener alternatives (despite how impractical) are out there.

ZTE attacks the MID market with its V7

In true Engadget fashion we’re surprised this device wasn’t classed as a KIRF, but nevertheless. What we’re looking at here is ZTE’s latest MID (the V7), and we’ve got to say at a first and even second glance it looks as though they’ve ripped off both Mac OS X and HTC’s Sense widgets. Ahh well, you know what they say: “imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.” Spec-wise the V7’s drumming to the beat of the Maemo OS with a physical QWERTY keyboard, a 4.1-inch (800 x 480) display, a 3.2-megapixel webcam, support for 3G CDMA1X, EV-DO and HSDPA, a Marvell PXA310 806MHz processor, GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth, microUSB, and an SD card slot thrown in for good measure. No info on pricing or a release date just yet, but we will say this, sans suffice we thought MIDs were dead? Guess we were wrong.

Starcraft in 8-bit Colecovision Glory

This is gameplay footage from the original game “Starcraft” as it was released in 1984. My uncle worked as an assistant programmer for Blizzard/Activision in the early 80’s. I found this in his closet next to an old Colecovision.

First of all, that story’s fake. But second of all, you can’t deny the awesomeness in the video on your left.

Reminder: Starcraft 2’s beta will be concluded at the end of this month - May 31st.

Apple updates its MacBook line, now it's better than ever

We’d already seen the leaked MacBook refresh but now its got official support from the folks in Cuptertino, California. That’s right folks, Apple’s next generation MacBook will after long last, support 2.4GHz of Core 2 Duo fun as well as NVIDIA GeForce 320M graphics and a longer lasting battery (up to 10 hours). At the moment it looks as though Apple’s only updated a handful of its sites (Hong Kong, Taiwan and Germany), but we expect the update to go global soon.
